Cross Country. XC Opens Season Strong with Drenth Memorial

The Michigan State cross country program opened its 2010 season on Friday, Sept. 3, with the Jeff Drenth Memorial hosted by Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Senior Alex Russeau led all male runners with his second consecutive Jeff Drenth Memorial win as he turned in a time of 15:05.1.

Korie Lucious pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge of reckless driving earlier today, reduced from the original charge of operating while intoxicated.  I am, of course, not an attorney (and I don't even play one on TV), but I'd think the facts that (1) this is a first-time offense, (2) Lucious was barely over the legal limit, and (3) he's only 9 weeks from being 21 were factors in the court's leniency. MSU guard Lucious has charge reduced to reckless driving

MSU point guard Korie Lucious, who was arrested Monday on suspicion of drunken driving, had the misdemeanor charge reduced from operating while intoxicated to reckless driving.

You have to be patient with protests when the Big Ten does something radical. And that's because it's happened before and life went on. But, it's hard to imagine today that the Big Ten won't regret the decision to split Michigan and Ohio State and leave their regular season-ending game in place.

We're nearly to the 24-hours-out mark on the 2010 MSU football season. Time to get pumped up! LVS is bunkered down writing the Western game preview as we speak. For the moment, what are your season-opener-eve expectations for the season? I think I've got myself talked into 9-3, but that may be the preseason irrational exuberance talking. 8-4 with a win over Michigan (for schadenfreude maximization purposes) would, I think, be pretty satisfactory.

Cross Country. XC Ranked in USTFCCCA Preseason Polls

The Michigan State cross country program was ranked by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the National Cross Country Coaches' Preseason Polls. The men were tabbed 21st, while the women are 23rd. MSU is one of six Big Ten women programs ranked and one of four conference men teams.

Michigan State's 2011 class is ranked second in Big Ten

Rivals.com released their recruiting rankings by school for the class of 2011 and Michigan State currently sits second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. The Spartans, who have 15 commitments, are rated 22nd nationally. The class is led by Detroit Renaissance five-star recruit Lawrence Thomas.
