February is when college basketball teams are supposed to be making their move toward the postseason. Michigan is moving, but in the wrong direction. The Wolverines lost their fifth in the past six games Saturday, this time to No. 16 Wisconsin, 62-44, at Crisler Arena -- a game where they fell behind late in the first half and never were competitive thereafter.
MADISON, Wis. -- Junior defenseman Brendan Smith, a Red Wings draft pick, scored a pair power-play goals in the third period to lift Wisconsin to a 3-2 victory over Michigan in front of 55,031 fans in an outdoor game played at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday night.
Leslie Rockymore recently dug into his personal archives and found a few newspaper articles from his playing days at Michigan. He showed them to his basketball players at Detroit Southwestern, where he coaches, proud of his role as a senior on the Big Ten championship team of 1985.
MADISON, Wis. -- Ed Lebler might have been the happiest parent of a Michigan hockey player on the Wisconsin campus over the weekend. Ed Lebler and his wife, Mary, live in Penticton, British Columbia, and Wisconsin was a big part of their lives two decades ago.
The buzz: An announced crowd of 55,031 braved the cold to watch Wisconsin score two third-period goals to beat U-M. After the game, Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves said he wanted to do it again and boasted it would fill the stadium.
