USC sophomore Briana Gilbreath has added to her list of accolades for the season with another high honor coming from the Pac-10 Conference. Gilbreath has been selected the Pac-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, sharing the award with Stanford senior Rosalyn Gold-Onwude.

Westlake Village (Calif.) sophomore receiver Jordan Payton ended the recruiting process earlier than most. The Oaks Christian 2012 graduate has two years before he signs with a college, but he already knows what college he will attend. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide out will make his verbal commitment this afternoon.

USC's 2006 recruiting class has gone from No. 1 in the nation to a bit of an afterthought in four years. USC has named C. L. Max Nikias, presently serving as Executive Vice President and Provost, as the school's 11th president. Nikias also received a unanimous vote and his presidency will become effective in August of this year.

LOS ANGELES - Mike Olt's RBI double provided the winning run in the top of the ninth Wednesday as the Connecticut Huskies defeated the USC Trojans, 5-4, in non-conference action at Dedeaux Field. Olt went 3-for-5 at the plate as the Huskies (6-2) went 4-1 on their five-game road trip to the West Coast.
