and here 4 decks.GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech junior Dorenzo Hudson took part in a 5 p.m. Hokies' shootaround Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum and sounded optimistic that he would play Friday in Tech's opening game in the ACC men's basketball tournament.

THE SETUP:
Alright, ladies, play time is over. The clock has tolled and it is officially March Madness. The Hokies head to Greensberg-o to participate in the granddaddy of them all, the ACC Tournament. This will be the first ‘true’ tournament Tech has played in all season, but the Hokies have some great tournament mojo working. [...]
HeadHokie: Displayed my range at practice! Think my college coach held me back! Might still have eligibility!

The conference tournament starts Thursday (Spoiler alert: Duke's going to win it.) but before the festivities get underway let's take a trip around the ACC to see what everyone's saying going into the games in Greensboro. We'll also check in with a few teams that are preparing to start spring football practice and see what those crazy hockey-playing BC Eagles are doing going into the only postseason tournament they'll be involved in this spring.

Virginia Tech had well over a dozen prospects on campus for junior day a week and a half ago. While an offer hasn't come, a quarterback on the trip is getting a solid look from the Hokies and enjoyed his first visit to campus
HeadHokie: On way to Greensboro. Solid practice. Will shoot have dinner and relax!

Ed. Note: This idea was stolen from this and uses data from this.
Pete Thamel's story in the New York Times yesterday about spending for success in Big East basketball made me interested to see if there was a similar trend in the ACC. The answer for our conference wasn't quite as definite as the Big East's.
Because the numbers used from the Department of Education

In my basketball season preview, I predicted the Hokies would finish a meager 15-15 this season (5-11 in ACC play) as they were expected to struggle without a defined third scorer. Out of the gate, it looked that way as Tech was hammered by the one decent team they played in the opening weeks (Temple) and was taken to overtime by a Delaware team that would not be able to stay in the gym with the March version of the Hokies. With still the ACC Tournament and a likely NCAA Tournament berth to come

Sterling Gibbs is having a fantastic junior season and has clearly established himself as one of the top point guards in the Northeast. The West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep prospect is averaging 24 points and five assists per game and although no new offers have arrived there is definitely more interes

Often times, the academic accomplishments of college football players is overlooked by the on-field accolades such as conference player of the year, rookie of the year, etc. So, it’s no surprise that nearly a month ago, four Virginia Tech Hokies were named to the ACC’s All Academic football team, but the news got very little [...]

Virginia Tech had one of the top prospects in the 2012 class, athlete Joel Caleb on campus a week ago. The Midlothian (Va.) Clover Hill prospect enjoyed the trip and gave his take on the Hokies at this time

• The 57th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament gets under way tomorrow from Greensboro, its natural home I feel. With no truly dominant team in the conference, this season’s tournament figures to be a wide open affair, with many teams – including the Virginia Tech Hokies – figuring they have a legitimate shot at taking [...]

Yes, I realize I'm way late on this. Deal with it.
It's not too often that I read something about UVa that elicits a reaction other than a wanking motion and look of disdain. But when I read this from Annette, it certainly raised my eyebrows. The Hoos are changing the playing field in the battle for 757 recruits by, well, changing their playing field. They'll hold

Virginia Tech is gradually dropping a few more offers in recent weeks. One of the latest went out last week to a top prospect in the mid-Atlantic. The Hokies were one of four new offers to come in
